Impending Immigration Changes Have Amassed Concerns and Actions of Civil Liberty Groups

Organizations that have chosen to fight for the civil liberties and civil rights of Americans have now increased their platform in order to bring substantive changes. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has widened its approach on several issues affecting citizens through a heightened political season. There hasn’t been any larger issue that affects all Americans, than the immigration issue.

With a U.S. population that increases even more each year, the advancement of the policies regarding immigration have become necessary. However; the ACLU knows the importance of balancing those policies with the laws that govern a democratic society. There are approximately 41 million immigrants in the United States, and it is estimated that 83 percent of those who make it to the country are deported without a hearing in front of a judge.

The ACLU has dedicated its organization to enforce the civil liberties and rights of immigrants in order to combat discrimination, both private and public. The United States spends over $1.84 billion in its efforts to detain and ultimately deport immigrants. Read more: Jim Larkin | Crunchbase and Michael Larcey | Crunchbase

This staggering statistic has alarmed the community who want to see fairness among immigrants, while also protecting American citizens. The ACLU has chosen to exercise its constitutional authority with the use of attorneys to target litigation involving immigration, increase advocacy awareness, and encourage public outreach.

In order for immigrants to become aware of their rights, the ACLU has formed an alliance with the community to bridge an understanding of issues relating to detention.

The organization is determined to see a reduction in the hundreds of thousands of immigrants that are unnecessarily detained. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the agency responsible for implementation of the immigration laws governing the country.

The ACLU determined that ICE uses removal tactics that have jeopardized the Fourth Amendment right for the protection of unreasonable search and seizure, a constitutional guarantee of judicial process and equal protection from discrimination based on race, ethnicity, and national origin.

With the approaching execution phase of the Arizona border protection wall, leaders within the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund have seen a growing concern within the region. The organization is led by Michael Lacy and Jim Larkin who founded the fund to combat injustices by the government regarding civil liberties.

Michael and Jim took their unprecedented First Amendment case to the U.S. Supreme Court which later prompted them to start the organization. The Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund uses its charitable platform through grass roots efforts to promote human rights, immigrant rights and freedom of speech.

The Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund is in support of the recent decision by the Arizona’s Pima County Board of Supervisors to pass a resolution into the investigation of the border wall. In a unanimous decision by the board, the language in the resolution has defined the intent to identify all companies that are involved in the construction of the border wall.
